How the pros use these numbers
- Measure from the worst seat, not the best. The distance that matters is the furthest reader you care about — the back of the hall, the far lane, the other side of the road.
- Design the headline to the comfortable number and let phone number and fine print ride at the minimum size. Big gets read; small gets remembered later.
- Contrast does half the work. 10cm of navy-on-white out-performs 15cm of grey-on-grey, every time.
- Test at one-tenth scale. Print your artwork at 10% on A4 and step back 10× your intended distance — the fastest honesty test in print.
