Business card sizes in Australia — the complete guide
The standard 90×55mm, the alternatives, and the stock and finish decisions that decide whether your card gets kept.
The business card is the smallest thing we print and the most-handled thing you own. Get the size, stock and layout right and it survives a wallet for years, still selling at every hand-off. Here's every decision that matters.
The standard — and when to break it

Our advice: standard unless you have a reason. A square card is a statement; make sure your brand can back the statement up.
Stock & finish — the feel test
350–400gsm is the business-weight sweet spot. Under 300gsm feels like a flyer; over 600gsm fights wallet slots.
The modern default — smooth, fingerprint-proof, writes-on with pen. Pairs beautifully with crisp typography.
Colours pop hardest — great for photography-heavy cards, tradies and hospitality.
Spot UV (raised shine on your logo), foil, and velvet-touch lamination — the cards people show other people.
Layout rules that survive wallets
- Name and number win. The eye should land on who you are, then how to reach you — everything else supports.
- One side is branding, one side is action. Front: logo + name. Back: services or a QR to your site. Or keep the back blank and write-on-friendly.
- Minimum type 7–8pt. Anything smaller disappears for half the population, and your 60-year-old best customer has reading glasses too.
- Respect the safe zone. Keep text 5mm from the trim; ask for print-ready specs or use our free templates.
- One QR code max. QR to your site or to save your contact — not both, and not to five socials.
